DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival at Kinshasa International Airport, Pick up and transfer to the Hotel for Check-in

Note: If the flight arrives in the morning, like before 9am, the city tour will be organized the same day. If the flight arrives in the afternoon, we are going to see Kinshasa by night and the city tour another day.

Overnight: Hotel Selton,

Day 2: Transfer to Nkala village for bonobos tracking,

  • Flight – Duration 1h
  • Speedboat  – Duration 5 to 5.30 hours
  • Motorized canoe  Duration 12-15 hours

After breakfast, we’re driving to Maluku/Airport, from where we’ll be picked for Nkala village, entrance village for bonobos trekking. Today, depending on the chosen transport, if we arrive early, we are going to enjoy the rhythm of village life and discover the customs, traditions, artisanal and agro-pastoral know-how.

Overnight in Bungalows in WWF camp.

There is also the option of staying at the farm of the local NGO MMT, near the village of Nkala, which offers a “homestay” atmosphere, ensuring a unique and authentic experience.

Day 3: Bonobos trekking

Today, we’re leaving at 4.30 am before breakfast [some snacks to be packed] to enter the forest as it is easy to see bonobos waking up time. It’s expected that we will return to the camp at 12.00pm for lunch. In the afternoon we can include the following activities:

  • Accompany the women on a traditional fishing trip at the dam, where they engage in gossip interspersed with song and laughter.
  • Observe other animals such as small monkeys and birds, and if you’re lucky, buffaloes and elephants.
  • Dance and sing with a local group.
  • Fishing in the Congo River.
  • Explore the surrounding area on 4*4 bikes or motorcycles.
  • In case Bonobos may not have been seen, it is possible to extend the stay of 1 day more.

Day 4: Descent to Kinshasa [Depends on Chosen transport]

The arrival is expected on the same day in Kinshasa and drive from Maluku to the City Centre.

Day 5: End of service, transfer to Airport.
